Prophylactic Urethrectomy: When and How?

  • Chapter
Book cover Carcinoma of the Bladder

Part of the book series: Medical Radiology ((Med Radiol Radiat Oncol))

Abstract

Transitional cell carcinoma primarily involves the bladder, but quite frequently it also involves either simultaneously or metachronously the urothelium of the urethra and the upper urinary tract (Melicow 1945). When urethral involvement is not recognized at the time of cystectomy, or occurs during the follow-up after cystectomy, it leads to urethral tumor recurrence.
