Zusammenfassung

Der Ausdruck „Demenz“ kennzeichnet eine ätiologisch unspezifische und semiologisch heterogene psychopathologische Symptomkonstellation. Ihre Hauptmerkmale sind erworbene, anhaltende oder fortschreitende Einschränkungen des Gedächtnisses und des Denkvermögens, die in Abwesenheit einer Bewuβtseinsstörung auftreten und sich in einer herabgesetzten Fähigkeit zur Alltagsbewältigung niederschlagen. Die kognitiven Einschränkungen gehen mit Veränderungen der Affektkontrolle und des Sozialverhaltens einher.
