Zusammenfassung
Ernst Haeckel schlug 1866 den Begriff Ökologie [griech.: oikos = Lehre; also die Lehre vom Haushalt (der Natur)] in weiter Fassung vor: „die gesamten Beziehungen des Organismus zu allen anderen Organismen, mit denen er in Berührung kommt“. Als wissenchaftlicher Begriff der Biologie hatte die Ökologie bis 1870 eine klare Definition als Spezialdisziplin erfahren, die sich Wechselbeziehungen zwischen Tieren und Pflanzen einerseits sowie ihrer unbelebten und belebten Umwelt andererseits widmete. Die Humanökologie ist ein Zweig der allgemeinen Ökologie, der sich mit der kollektiven Anpassung (oder Fehlanpassung) menschlicher Gemeinschaften an Umweltvariablen, an geographische und technische Bedingungen beschäftigt.
