Zusammenfassung
Das QoS-Management für verteilte interaktive Multimedia-Anwendungen basiert derzeit meist auf zentralen Ansätzen, in denen zentrale Server das QoS-Management für eine Gruppe von Kommunikationspartnern realisieren. Zentrale Ansätze sind einfacher in der Realisierung. Der zentrale Server kann jedoch durch Systemfehler, Ausfälle oder Leistungsengpässe zum Schwachpunkt des Systems werden. Um die Probleme zentraler Server zu vermeiden, und um die Anwendungen in den Endsystemen besser zu unterstützen, scheint ein verteiltes QoS-Management auf Anwendungsebene mit Unterstützung durch alle darunterliegenden Schichten geeigneter. Im Vortrag wird ein verteiltes QoS-Management für das Videokonferenzsystem Gcsva als Beispiel für eine verteilte multimediale Anwendung vorgestellt. Die Datenrate der Videoströme wird in Gcsva mittels Filterung, sowohl auf Senderals auch auf Empfängerseite, der Kapazität der einzelnen Endsysteme angepaßt. Da das System direkt auf ATM basiert, erfolgt die Skalierung ausschließlich in den Endsystemen. Die Konsistenz der QoS-Daten in den Endsystemen wird durch ein spezielles Gruppenkommunikationsprotokoll gewährleistet, das eine zuverlässige, atomare und geordnete Kommunikation gewährleistet.
