Um das volle Potential der Benzin-Direkteinspritzung, sowohl einen geringen Kraftstoffverbrauch als auch eine hohe Motorleistung auszuschöpfen, ist eine komplexe Motorsteuerung mit maximalem Freiheitsgrad bezüglich Ansteuerung aller Stellgrößen erforderlich. Dabei wird zwischen zwei grundlegenden Betriebsarten unterschieden [4.10], [4.9], [4.8], [4.14].
