Abstract

The development of chemical probes to image ions has made it possible to study specifically biological activity in single living cells. Computer-controlled instrumentation for acquiring data from living tissue at fast rates has in turn made it possible to acquire ultra low light level data from these probes and to analyse either images or temporal changes in light emission, or both.
