Abstract
Computed tomography (CT) currently plays a major role in assessment of the adrenal glands and related pathologies. Due to its high spatial resolution, CT can demonstrate adrenals of normal size and detect tumors as small as 1 cm. CT characterization of adrenal tumors is more difficult, however, and differentiation of malignant tumors from benign lesions remains a challenge. As a result of the development of new imaging sequences, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) has become an increasingly valuable modality for both the detection and characterization of adrenal masses. Advances have also been made in other diagnostic techniques, in particular adrenal scintigraphy.
