Zusammenfassung

Die „neuen Darmparasiten“ sind nur teilweise wirklich neu. Neu ist vielmehr, daß ihre Bedeutung für Mikrobiologen und Kliniker erst in den letzten Jahren offenbar geworden ist. Verbesserte diagnostische Möglichkeiten haben dazu beigetragen, sie sicherer und schneller erkennen zu können. Eine verstärkte Reisetätigkeit importierte Darmparasiten aus Entwicklungsländern, in denen sie mit hoher Prävalenz vorkommen, auch in die Industrieländer, in denen sie bisher eine Rarität waren. Die „neuen Darmparasiten“ sind im Prinzip für einen ansonsten gesunden Menschen relativ harmlos. Das Aufkommen neuer Krankheiten (z.B. AIDS) oder neuer Therapiemöglichkeiten (z.B. antineopla-stische Chemotherapie, Organtransplantation, Knochenmarktransplantation) hat allerdings dazu geführt, daß diese Erreger bei immer mehr Personen eine klinisch manifeste und therapiebedürftige Erkrankung hervorrufen.
