Zusammenfassung

Der Gastrointestinaltrakt verfügt über ein ausgedehntes und komplexes intramurales Nervensystem, das enterische Nervensystem (ENS). Es koordiniert und kontrolliert wesentliche gastrointestinale Funktionen, wie Motilität, Resorption, Sekretion. Über diese Funktionen im Rahmen der Verdauung hinaus beeinflußt das ENS endokrine und immunologische Vorgänge des Magen-Darm-Kanals.
