The software overlying the structural, sensorial and central nervous hardware creates the so-called space concept within the brain. Failures of sensory inputs as well as of central equilibrium regulation may lead to various expressions of illness such as vertigo, nausea and vomiting, blurred vision, nystagmus, head and body instability, changes in cardiac rhythm and metabolic alterations. The system has many inborn possibilities for internal stabilization and compensation; in fact after injury various neurophysiological phenomena are involved in the restoration of the equilibrium function.
