Abstract

The automation of object separation and sorting is an economically important task. This paper deals with the localisation of objects packed in transparent foils, which are lying arbitrarily among cardboard boxes. The presented algorithm utilizes the appearance characteristics of planar patches, which are segmented in a range image of the scene. No specific sensors are required except for a laser triangulation camera system. Experimental results emphasize the robustness and the time efficiency of the method.
