Abstract
In this chapter, Life Cycle Assessment is located within the wider context of Technology Assessment. A definition of Life Cycle Assessment and its phases is provided. Methods used in each of the phases are briefly described. Methods for the assessment of human health effects of air pollutants are discussed in detail in order to provide a background for the new method presented in chapter 3.
