Zusammenfassung
Am absoluten Nullpunkt - im Grundzustand - sind die Atome mit einer bestimmten Kohäsionsenergie aneinander gebunden. Eine Erwärmung (oder eine sonstige elektrische, magnetische, optische oder mechanische Störung) befördert die Atome aus diesem Grundzustand in einen angeregten Zustand. In diesem Kapitel soll erörtert werden, welche Anregungen durch eine Erwärmung erfolgen und welcher Anregungsenergien sie bedürfen, um zu verstehen, wie die thermische Energie eines Eisenkristalls mit der Temperatur zunimmt und seine Bindungsenergie demnach abnimmt, eine Voraussetzung zum Verständnis der Stabilität der verschiedenen Eisenmodifikationen und deren physikalischer Eigenschaften.
