Abstract
Figure 11.1 shows a simplified concept of a multimedia satellite system. It is based on a satellite constellation which uses an ISL subnetwork for the transmission of long-distance traffic. The end users can access the system over the air interface. The satellite network is connected via fixed earth sta- tions (gateways) to the terrestrial broadband ISDN and other terrestrial fixed networks.
