Abstract
EUROTRAC, the European Experiment on Transport and Transformation of Environmentally Relevant Trace Constituents in the Troposphere over Europe was a European scientific research programme within the EUREKA framework. It was accepted as a EUREKA project in 1985 and, after an two-year definition phase, began work in 1988. The project finished at the end of 1995. At its peak the eight year programme included more than 250 research groups from 24 European countries and its budget exceeded 16 million ECU per year. It was set up in the perspective of an increasing awareness of the effects of air pollution on European ecosystems. A second phase of the project was started in July 1996 (ISS, 1999).
