Zusammenfassung

Schmerz ist ein Symptom, über das im Alter sehr häufig geklagt wird. Selbst nach vorsichtigen Schätzungen muß davon ausgegangen werden, daß 25% der älteren Menschen unter ständig vorhandenen oder rezidivierenden Schmerzzuständen leiden. Die Auswirkungen chronischer Schmerzzustände im Alter sind vielfältig. Chronische Schmerzzustände und ihre Behandlung haben erhebliche Auswirkungen auf die Lebensqualität und auf die Qualität der Pflege besonders bei Patienten mit terminalen Erkrankungen und bei Bewohnern von Pflegeheimen.
