Zusammenfassung
Im Jahre 1999 stehen wir kurz vor Abschluß des 20. Jahrhunderts. Dieses Jahrhundert hat sehr viele Katastrophen auf der einen Seite und politische sowie soziale Fortschritte auf der anderen Seite hervorgebracht. Zu den herausragenden Wohltaten dieses Jahrhunderts gehört die Entwicklung des Gesundheitswesens. Die zweite Hälfte des vergangenen Jahrhunderts hat mehr Fortschritte hinsichtlich menschlicher Existenzbedingungen erbracht als alle Jahrhunderte zuvor. Frauen und Männer verschiedener Rassen und ethnischer Herkünfte, Kulturen, Altersgruppen und sozioökonomischer Entwicklung haben an diesem revolutionären Prozeß teilgehabt.
