Zusammenfassung

Komorbidität ist allgemein als Anwesenheit von mehr als einer Störung bei einer Person über einen festgelegten Zeitraum definiert worden (Wittchen 1996). Das Konzept hat bei der weitverbreiteten Anwendung der DSM-III-Diagnosekriterien an wachsendem Interesse gewonnen. “Zwei oder drei DSM-III-Diagnosen sind eher die Regel als die Ausnahme„ (Van Praag 1996). Einige Forscher halten das Konzept für zwingend, während andere es kritisch einschätzen. Dieses Kapitel wird die Forschung beschreiben, welche die Verbreitung von Komorbidität aufzeigt, einige Erklärungen für das Konzept liefern und auf die klinische Bedeutsamkeit des Erkennens von Formen von Komorbidität hinweisen.
