Zusammenfassung
For the management of preneoplastic and early squamous cell cancer of the esophagus, an identification of the high risk group of esophageal carcinogenesis as a target of intensive screening is critical. Although the mass-screening system for gastrointestinal cancers has been developed in Japan, detection rate of asymptomatic early esophageal cancer is still low in X-ray screening (0.007%) or routine endoscopy (0.03%). Intensive endoscopic screening by iodine staining for the high risk group such as alcoholics (3.6%) or the patients with head and neck cancer (9.3%), has significantly improved detection rate of early esophageal cancer.
