Zusammenfassung

Bei einer Hypoglykämie sinken Blut- bzw. Plasmaglukosespiegel ab und können — unabhängig von der Ursache — im Extremfall zu einer Minderversorgung des Gehirns mit Glukose führen. Das menschliche Gehirn ist weitestgehend auf Glukose als Energielieferant angewiesen, verfügt aber weder über Synthesenoch über Speichermöglichkeiten, so dass die Aufrechterhaltung ausreichender Glukosespiegel in der Zirkulation entscheidend ist.
