Abstract
According to the currently valid guidelines for specialty training issued in 1984 by the German Federal Chamber of Physicians (Bundesärztekammer), the specialty of child and adolescent psychiatry is defined as follows: “Child and adolescent psychiatry and psychotherapy comprises the diagnosis, non-surgical treatment, prevention, and rehabilitation of mental, psychosomatic, developmental, and neurological illnesses and disorders, as well as abnormalities of behavior and conduct in children and adolescents.”
