Abstract

Concerning the extent of resection in diverticular disease of the colon, there is only very sparce evidence available (Philipps, London). Obviously it is unnecessary to resect all parts of the colon carrying diverticula but it seems to be extremely advisable to identify the rectum intraoperatively and carry the resection all the away down to the rectum. All gross disease should be resected.
