Abstract
A smooth healing with minimal scarring is an important goal in every wound management of the skin. Patients will judge the work of the surgeon plastically, that is on the looks of the scar; so the scar makes the reputation of the surgeon. The great variety of skin wounds calls for a differentiated approach to each one, which again is based on individual suture techniques and a multitude of available suture materials. In addition, the degree of a wound’s contamination as well as a number of systemic and local factors may influence the healing process.
