Zusammenfassung

Das Schicksal einer Dispersion in Gegenwart von Polymeren hängt davon ab, ob die Polymere an den Teilchen adsorbiert werden oder in Lösung bleiben (Abb. 4.1). Im ersten Fall kommt es häufig schon bei geringsten Konzentrationen zur Flockung (Kap. 4.4). Bei ausreichender Bedeckung der Teilchen durch die adsorbierten Makromoleküle setzt sterische Stabilisierung (steric stabilization) ein (Kap. 4.5). Werden die Makromoleküle nicht adsorbiert, verbleiben also im Dispersionsmittel, flockt die Dispersion bei einer bestimmten Polymerkonzenation infolge von Verarmungseffekten (depletion flocculation; Kap. 4.12). Manchmal werden diese Dispersionen bei hohen Polymerkonzentrationen wieder stabil (Verarmungsstabilisierung, depletion stabilization). Verarmungseffekte treten auch auf, wenn eine Dispersion von Teilchen mit makromolekularer Hülle noch gelöste Polymere enthält (Kap. 4.12). Solche Systeme sind in der Technik besonders häufig.
