Part of the book series: Herausforderungen an das Management ((HERAUSMANAG,volume 4))

Summary

Corporations are going virtual. More and more systems and activities are based on integrated information and communication technology. This is especially true for collaboration on a peer-to-peer level and co-operation on a customer-supplier level. The major driving forces, leading to new concepts of “virtual” business process integration, are as follows:

  • — Enabling Equipment:// Technological Barriers are disappearing

  • — Interactive Operations:// Networks are becoming ubiquitous

  • — Co-Creative Environments:// Competent Partners are working together

  • — Dynamic Communities:// Social Patterns are changing

As a result of analysing the different trends of each section the authors come to the conclusion, that there are four critical factors for a successful implementation: Win / Win Networking, Knowledge Positioning, Global Teaming, and Target Coaching. Based on these factors, it is shown, how strategies for virtual cooperation / collaboration work: First of all, we need a new, comprehensive understanding of media-based “Teleworking” as the basic tool for virtual business process integration. Second, we have to realise the tremendous options of “Multimedia Conferencing” as the platform for virtual design, identity, and behaviour. Then we are really in the position to establish the “Virtual Corporation” of the future.
