PVC ist einer der ältesten Standardkunststoffe. Zu den chemischen Rohstoffen für die PVC-Produktion gehören Erdöl und Steinsalz (Natriumchlorid). Aus Steinsalz entsteht durch Elektrolyse Chlor, Natronlauge und Wasserstoff (Abb. 1).
