Zusammenfassung
Eine chemische Substanz am falschen Ort und in der falschen Konzentration nennt man einen Schadstoff. Schadstoffe sind definiert als Verunreinigungen, die für den Menschen oder die Biosphäre schädlich sind. Die Erforschung der Luftverschmutzung beschäftigt sich mit Schadstoffen, die (in der Regel vom Land) als Gase oder Stäube in die Atmosphäre emittiert werden und die dann direkt oder indirekt physikalische und biologische Systeme beeinträchtigen oder schädigen.
