Abstract
The lecturers presented the general picture as well as an overview of coal gasification systems. Technical issues are close to being solved in cold gas cleanup systems. However, further improvement is needed in terms of hot gas cleanup systems. Within this frame hot gas clean-up is the main barrier for coal gasification and IGCC systems. The 2–3% increase of efficiency of IGCC systems to be achieved with hot gas clean-up systems is justified not only economically but also environmentally.
