Zusammenfassung
Metastatische Tumorabsiedlungen im Mediastinum sind ein relativ häufiger und gut dokumentierter Befund (Übersicht: Shimosato U. Mukai 1997). Über die tatsächliche Häufigkeit von Thymusmetastasen indessen ist wenig bekannt (Rosai u. Levine 1976; Marchevsky U. Kaneko 1992; Kornstein 1995). Die unseres Wissens einzige systematische Untersuchung (Autopsiestudie) stammt von Middleton aus dem Jahre 1966. Unter 102 obduzierten Karzinompatienten hatten 7 (= 6,9%) metastatische Tumorabsiedlungen im Thymus (Mammae, Lunge, Larynx, Magen). Demgegenüber ist bei lymphoproliferativen Erkrankungen der Thymus wesentlich häufiger involviert. Unter 41 Lymphom-/Leukämienpatienten war der Thymus in immerhin 18 Fällen (= 43.9%) betroffen.
