Abstract
The Barnaul NATO/SCOPE-RADTEST Advanced Research Workshop was dedicated to Long-Term Consequences of Nuclear Tests for the Environment and Population Health (Semipalatinsk Test Site/Altai Case Study). It was opened on September 5, 1995 by Mr. Korshunov (Head, Altai Region Administration). Mr. Korshunov briefly described the features of the Altai Region concerning population structure, agricultural and industrial complex. He noted that the health situation in the Region is “dramatic”. There is a Federal Program on population rehabilitation which will run until 2,000.
