Zusammenfassung

Das Mammakarzinom ist die häufigste bösartige Erkrankung der Frauen in den meisten Ländern Europas, in Nordamerika und in vielen Ländern von Lateinamerika, Australien und Asien [Parkin et al. 1988; Schüler 1996]. Rund 8% aller Frauen, die das 75. Lebensjahr erreichen, erkranken im Laufe ihres Lebens an einem Mammakarzinom [Hoffmeister 1987]. Weltweit weist die Inzidenz große Unterschiede auf. Mit wenigen Ausnahmen ist jedoch eine deutliche Inzidenzzunahme zu beobachten [Muir et al. 1987; Wynder et al.1991]. In Zentral- und Westeuropa stieg die Mammakarzinominzidenz von 1956–1975 um 20% [Becker et al. 1984]. Nach Hochrechnungen von Krebszentren im Saarland, in Baden-Württemberg und in Hamburg, wird die Zahl von Neuerkrankungen in Westdeutschland momentan auf 25.000 Frauen pro Jahr geschätzt [Bahnsen 1987]. Die Schweiz gehört zu den Ländern mit hoher Mammakarzinominzidenz; 3.500–3.800 Frauen erkranken dort jährlich neu an dieser Krankheit [Schüler 1996]. 40% dieser Tumoren werden in der Altersgruppe zwischen 50 und 69 Jahren diagnostiziert. Die altersstandardisierte Neuerkrankungsrate an invasivem Mammakarzinom ist zwischen 1980 und 1990 um 1–2% pro Jahr angestiegen [Torhorst 1995a]. Eine analoge Entwicklung wird in den USA beobachtet [Meuret 1994a; Muir et al. 1987; Waterhouse et al. 1982].
