Zusammenfassung
Die Depression ist die häufigste psychische Erkrankung. Epidemiologische Untersuchungen zeigen, dass die Punkt-Prävalenz depressiver Symptome in der Bevölkerung 13–20%, die der ausgeprägten Depression 2–5% beträgt. Daraus folgt, daß Anpassungsstörungen mit depressiver Verstimmung und kurz dauernde depressive Reaktionen im Bevölkerungsdurchschnitt etwa 5- bis 10-mal häufiger auftreten als voll ausgeprägte Depressionen. Die Lebenszeit-Prävalenz behandlungsbedürftiger depressiver Erkrankungen beläuft sich allerdings auf 10–20%, da depressive Erkrankungen eine hohe Rezidivrate haben und Verstimmungen in Depressionen übergehen können [4, 10, 13].
