Zusammenfassung

Lähmungsskoliosen, sogenannte neuromuskuläre Skoliosen sind oft sehr progressiv, erreichen groteske Ausmaße und führen zu assoziierenden Begleiterkrankungen mit Funktionsverlusten (Brown et al. 1982, Lonstein und Akbarnia 1983). Da durch die Grunderkrankung neben der Intelligenz auch die Wahrnehmung und das autonome Nervensystem beeinträchtigt sein können, stellt die Behandlung der Deformität ein komplexes und anspruchsvolles Problem für den Skoliologen dar (Bradford und Hu 1995). Obwohl im Frühstadium die besten Therapieerfolge erzielbar sind, werden viele Patienten in Unkenntnis der therapeutischen Möglichkeiten oft erst vorgestellt, wenn sich bereits eine schwere Deformität entwickelt hat. Insbesondere mit der Entwicklung dorsaler und zunehmend auch ventraler primär stabiler Implantate wird die Frage des konservativen und operativen Vorgehens weiter kontrovers diskutiert.
