Zusammenfassung
Wie kaum ein anderes Fachgebiet in der Medizin ist die Pathologie unmittelbar in neue technologische Entwicklungen einbezogen, sowohl in die Genetik/Molekularbiologie/Biochemie als auch in die Computeranwendung und elektronische Datenverarbeitung einschließlich Bilderfassung, Bildspeicherung, Bildarchivierung, Bildbearbeitung wie z.B. quantitative Auswertung (Zytometrie) und Einbindung erfaßter diagnostischer Basisdaten in Krankenhauskommunikationssysteme. In der immer dichter werdenden Kommunikation dient der Einsatz der Elektronik der Überbrückung von Zeit und Raum und zur Übermittlung von ursprünglichen, d. h. nicht gefilterten und somit zeitunabhängigen Informationen. Die Basisinformationsquelle einer jeglichen diagnostisch tätigen Pathologie ist zweifelsfrei das zweidimensionale Bild. Der Informationsgehalt, den ein erfahrener Pathologe aus diesem Bild„extrahieren“ kann, ist nicht nur abhängig von seiner Erfahrung und den Möglichkeiten, sich fehlende Zusatzinformationen anzueignen, sondern auch von der Bildqualität und Bilddarstellung, d.i., der Größe des Bildausschnitts. Die modernen Hochleistungsmikroskope haben hier neue Standards gesetzt; es ist zudem heute möglich, Bilder elektronisch in nahezu unbegrenzter Größe und in einer nie bekannten räumlichen Auflösung und Farbqualität zu erfassen, zu speichern und über weite Entfernungen zu transportieren.
