Zusammenfassung
Die Böden von Küstendünen (Lockersyrosem, Regosol) sind überwiegend aus Mittelsanden entstanden und sind in hohem Maße vergleichbar. Der Sand wird durch Meeresströmungen an den Strand gespült und nach Abtrocknung durch den Wind weiter transportiert. Wo die Vegetation den Wind bremst, entstehen Initialdünen von wenigen Zentimetern bis zu mehreren Metern Höhe. Oberhalb der Sturmflutmarke beginnen hoch aufgewehte und permanente Weißdünen, die an vielen Küstenabschnitten einen Schutzwall für das Hinterland bilden. Die Bodenbildung dieser jungen Dünen ist stark vom Meer beeinflußt. Durch frisch angewehten Sand findet eine permanente Versorgung mit Nährstoffen und ein ständiger Eintrag von Salz statt. Die noch lückige Vegetation der frühen Stadien der Bodenbildung verfügt über ein ausgedehntes Wurzelwerk mit ausgeprägter Mycorrhizierung, welches den Sand stabilisiert und vielen bodenlebenden Organismen als Nahrungsquelle dient.
