Zusammenfassung
Küstendünen sind einzigartige Lebensräume mit spezifischen Lebensbedingungen, daran angepaßten Lebensgemeinschaften und hochgradig spezialisierten Pflanzen-und Tierarten. Entlang der deutschen Nord-und Ostseeküste stellen sie ein wesentliches Element der Landschaften dar, denen als Nationalparks oder Naturschutzgebieten ein besonderer Wert zuerkannt wird. Küstendünen bilden zudem einen natürlichen Schutzwall, der das Hinterland vor Überflutungen bewahrt. Somit haben Küstendünen eine herausragende Bedeutung sowohl für den Naturschutz als auch für den Küstenschutz.
