Abstract

The organizers of this symposium have asked me to address the problem of how education in genetics for health professionals and consumers should best be provided. I cannot respond to this request in a scientifically satisfying way. To do so, a number of prerequisites must first be met: Different types of educational work should be tested, evaluated and compared, and both goals and measurements of success should be defined. To the best of my knowledge, no serious research in that direction has been performed in Germany.
