Abstract
It is my pleasure and privilege to welcome you to this international workshop on “The social and ethical implications of the new Genetics“. I would first like to congratulate the organizers, Irmgard Nippert, Heidemarie Neitzel and Gerhard Wolff, that they brought together representatives from so many countries and disciplines, from the old and the new world and the so-called developing countries, from social and natural sciences as well as physicians and members of the genetic support groups.
