Zusammenfassung
In Deutschland haben die Phytotherapeutika in der medikamentösen Behandlung der BPH eine große Akzeptanz. Sie sind in der Langzeitmedikation gut verträglich und weisen auch kaum Nebenwirkungen auf. Darüber hinaus sind die Therapiekosten deutlich niedriger als bei anderen Präparaten. Nach einer Umfrage in 205 urologischen Praxen in Deutschland werden bei BPH-Patienten 80% Phytopharmaka, 14% α-Rezeptoren-Blocker und 6% 5α-Reduktasehemmer verordnet (Schneider u. Sökeland 1997). Die Prozentzahlen haben sich in den letzten Jahren deutlich zugunsten der α-Rezeptoren-Blocker verschoben. Die Verordnung von prostatotropen Pflanzenpräparaten durch ärzte für Allgemeinmedizin ist wahrscheinlich noch höher (s. Abb. 3-2). Wählt man diese Behandlungsstrategie, so müssen nur 1/3 bis 1/4 der Patienten mit symptomatischer BPH primär (selten) oder nach erfolgloser konservativer Therapie operiert werden.
