Part of the book series: Springer Series in Solid-State Sciences ((SSSOL,volume 126))

Abstract

One of the main developments in solid-state physics in the last two decades has been the discovery of quasicrystals (QCs) by Shechtman et al. (1984). The discovery of new compounds often leads to the emergence of new fields in solid-state physics. This has been the case with heavy fermions, oxide superconductors, and fullerenes. It is clearly also the case with QCs.
