Zusammenfassung

Muskuläre Schwäche und Atrophie bei Intensivpatienten wurden lange Zeit einer Kombination aus Immobilität und kataboler Stoffwechsellage zugeschrieben. In den vergangenen Jahren wurde deutlich, daß viel häufiger spezifische Erkrankungen des neuromuskulären Systems die Ursache sind, die während der intensivmedizinischen Behandlung de novo entstehen und dann ihrerseits die Beatmungspflichtigkeit unterhalten und eine neurologische Rehabilitation erfordern. Klinisch manifestieren sie sich zumeist durch verzögerte Entwöhnung vom Respirator und durch Verlängerung der Mobilisation.
