Zusammenfassung
Die erstmals 1959 von Adams et al. beschriebene zentrale pontine Myelinolyse (ZPM) ist eine seltene Erkrankung, die durch symmetrische demyelini-sierende Läsionen im Zentrum des Brückenfußes charakterisiert ist; Neuronen und Axone sind weitgehend vom Krankheitsprozeß ausgespart. Zusätzliche extrapontine Läsionen können bei etwa 10% der Patienten nachgewiesen werden, insbesondere in den Stammganglien, im Thalamus, in der Capsula interna, im Kleinhirn und im Rückenmark. Patienten mit einer schweren Verlaufsform einer ZPM können ein „Locked-in-Syndrom“ entwickeln und intensivpflichtig werden.
