Summary
The large variation in articular surface dimensions makes modularity a prerequisite for the design of a shoulder prosthesis. However, the variable shape of the proximal humerus, as observed in our anatomical study, has led us to develop a new generation of shoulder prosthesis which is not only modular but also adaptable to the individual anatomy. Prosthetic adaptability is a new concept which allows four geometrical parameters to be taken into account intraoperatively: inclination, retroversion, posterior offset and medial offset can be individualised for each shoulder, thanks to technological innovations.
