Abstract

In the present paper, an implicit time accurate approach, combined with multigrid is used for the Large-Eddy Simulation (LES) of compressible flows. The multigrid scheme is used as a driver for a fully implicit time stepping scheme. The time derivative is approximated by a second order backward difference formulation. The channel flow is considered as test case. Comparison with a purely explicit approach using a second order and four stages Runge-Kutta method shows that the explicit scheme is 40–50% more expensive in CPU time.
