Abstract
Retroperitoneal organs, e.g., kidneys and adrenal glands, and organs developing intraperitoneally, e. g., liver, spleen and pancreas, possess different lymphatic drainage areas. Whereas retroperitoneal organs drain mainly to the lumbar lymph node group, intraperitoneal organs drain to visceral nodes, e. g., the mesenteric lymph nodes, the largest group in the body comprising some 100–150 nodes.
