Die Erkrankung wurde ursprünglich Acne rosacea genannt, eine unzutreffende Bezeichnung, die sich teilweise bis heute gehalten hat. Rosazea kann leicht mit Akne verwechselt werden oder gleichzeitig mit dieser Erkrankung bestehen.
