Part of the book series: NATO ASI Series ((NATO ASI F,volume 140))

Abstract

The objective of this book is to elaborate and disseminate the theoretical and research knowledge in the area of automated instructional design developed at the NATO Advanced Study Institute held in Grimstad, Norway in 1993. The focus of the institute remained the same as that of the NATO Advanced Research Workshop held in Barcelona in 1992: That is, to promote the use of artificial intelligence and advanced interactive technologies in the design, development, and delivery of instructional computing systems. The specific goals of this book are to: (a) share the lessons learned from the institute in the area of automated instructional design; (b) facilitate international cooperation in the implementation of advanced instructional design systems; and, (c) stimulate further R&D by presenting a collection of chapters representing the state-of-the-art knowledge with regard to automated instructional design.
