Abstract

The physics of multicharged ions (or highly ionized atoms) is one of the most dynamic areas in modern atomic physics. The spectra of these ions contain important information about plasma macroparameters (electron and ion temperature and density, charge-state distribution, etc.) and, therefore, provide an important diagnostic tool for the investigation of hot laboratory and astrophysical plasmas. As a diagnostic tool high-resolution spectroscopy of multicharged ions has proved to be an extremely useful, and sometimes, even the only possible method for measuring these parameters.
