Abstract
The problem of earthquakes induced by industrial activity in the rock masses of the Earth’s crust has attracted considerable attention of seismologists since the devastating earthquake of 1979 in the region of Koina big water reservoir in India (M=6.3) (Gupta & Rastogi, 1979). Local dense stationary seismic networks were installed in the vicinity of a number of such reservoirs which resulted in accumulation of a large volume of experimental data and working out of practical instructions for safe operation of reservoirs. At present induced seismicity of zones with big water reservoirs can be considered as the most deeply investigated area in study of earthquakes initiated by industrial activity. At the same time physical models of induced seismicity in reservoir regions are still under discussion (Krestnikov et al, 1990; Mirzoev et al, 1987).
