Abstract

This presentation is intended to cover the pathophysiology of cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) (5, 6) linked to the bypass circuit and to the material or foreign surfaces interacting with the patient’s blood and how those blood activators contribute to the deleterious consequences of CPB impacting the postoperative complications or morbidity. Other areas will be covered by other presenters.
